US shale giant Chesapeake Energy is consolidating and increasing its position in the emerging Goodland tight oil exploration play in east Texas after spudding its first horizontal well in the play earlier this month.
The Oklahoma City independent bought out the position of fellow onshore player Carrizo Oil & Gas, which had begun to establish a foothold in the play before the downturn in oil prices, according to county records.
