Stena Drilling’s warm-stacked veteran semi-submersible Stena Spey is set to go to work on a long-term contract with Alpha Petroleum off the UK.

The 1983-built rig has been fixed on what is understood to be a 480-day charter for drilling on Alpha’s still-to-be-sanctioned Cheviot development project, with work due to start in March 2019, with extension options.

The contract was confirmed in a new project update from the UK Oil & Gas Authority, which said: "The wells will be drilled with the semi-submersible rig the Stena Spey.
