Chevron has begun the permitting process for its Gator Lake prospect in the vicinity of its Anchor discovery in the Gulf of Mexico, a wildcat on a high-dollar block acquired at a US lease sale last year.
The US supermajor saw an exploration plan for the Gator Lake target approved last week on Green Canyon blocks 719 and 720, with the first well scheduled from mid-April, according to records of the US Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).
