The block is located about 140 kilometres south-west of Sihanoukville, so a full-field development could use platforms and a pipeline to shore, even if a floater were brought in to fast-track early oil production.
The operator has embarked on an aggressive drilling programme comprising up to 10 exploration and appraisal wells, following which it will "have more information to report", a Chevron spokeswoman in Bangkok said.
