China's Great Wall Drilling takes leap into overseas play

China's largest drilling services company, China Great Wall Drilling, is looking to deploy more rigs overseas this year in response to increased exploration and development activities by its parent company China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and foreign operators, writes Xu Yihe.

The company has decided to boost the number of its overseas rigs by 16% to 170 to meet its drilling commitments with CNPC, which has exploration and production operations in 28 countries.

One company official said Great Wall has been increasing the number of rigs available for overseas projects operated by CNPC and foreign operators by about 20 annually over the last three years.
