The Chinese government has further relaxed its policy on onshore and offshore oil and gas development by foreign companies in China by allowing them to proceed with projects without having to wait on approvals for overall development plans (ODPs), writes Xu Yihe.

In late February, the country’s Cabinet, the State Council, issued a circular saying that while ODPs would still be submitted for onshore, offshore and coalbed methane developments in China by foreign operators, they would no longer form part of the project approval process but would be a matter of record.
