UK supermajor BP has started work on a gas lift project that aims to stem production declines at Chirag — the company’s oldest offshore facility in Azerbaijan’s Caspian Sea.

The $240 million Chirag gas lift project has been sanctioned by the project partners and is expected to be in operation by the end of next year, sources said.

The project proposes installation of gas compressors that will inject associated gas back into the reservoir.
