BP is making steady progress on the upcoming third phase of development at the giant Clair field in the UK West of Shetland area, with the Clair South project due to enter front-end engineering and design next year.

The UK supermajor’s regional North Sea president Ariel Flores confirmed to Upstream that a final investment decision is due in 2020 or 2021, with the timing dependent in part on ongoing work on concept selection and approval by the Clair partners — which include Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell as well as US oil companies ConocoPhillips and Chevron.
