CNOOC is currently studying data following discussions with Nairobi's Ministry of Energy. Two weeks ago, it completed initial talks with the National Oil Company of Kenya (Nock).
The Chinese strategy evidently does not fit neatly into Kenya's exploration and production procedure and it is taking time to finalise the proposed special arrangement.
However, it is understood joint-venture operations on open acreage may be permitted under a non-exclusive exploration regime agreed between the parties.
