Chinese operator CNOOC Ltd has made a major natural gas discovery in the South China Sea's deep-water Qiongdongnan basin, with hopes the find could hold 100 billion cubic metres of gas.
The Yongle 8-3-1 discovery well spudded in July has just completed, flowing about 1 million cubic metres of gas per day after reaching a target depth of 3015 metres.
