Major Chinese oil and gas operator CNOOC Ltd has decided to return to the offshore wind sector, taking advantage of its offshore engineering, procurement and construction capability to expand its clean energy portfolio.

Last month, the company incorporated a renewable energy outfit in Shanghai, CNOOC Renewable Energy, which shares the same management and staff as CNOOC Donghai Administration, a CNOOC Ltd subsidiary that currently looks after the oil and gas exploration and development in the East China Sea.
