China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has initiated a new move to relinquish oil and gas blocks to new companies to inject fresh investment and technology into acreage where exploration and development efforts have had limited success.
Last month, the company allocated 38 blocks covering 85,700 square kilometres to companies, including some outside its auspices, for exploration. Some of those that participated are private service companies such as drilling contractors.
