The latest gas leak and fire occurred on 25 March at the Luojia-2 well where locals reported a 10-metre flame. The well had still not been capped as Upstream went to press.
No injuries or fatalities occurred as a direct result of the gas escape, which one unconfirmed local report attributed to a pipeline leak.
To date no hydrogen sulphide (H2S) has been detected in the air or water within three kilometres of the well, according to CNPC technicians and local environmental experts, the Xinhua news agency reported.
