China Oilfield Service Ltd (COSL), the country’s top offshore drilling contractor, continues to boost its drilling capacity by leasing rigs that have been abandoned by foreign owners at Chinese yards, writes Xu Yihe.
The company last week chartered a new jack-up from China Merchant Heavy Industry (CMHI) for a drilling campaign in Bohai Bay off northern China.
The latest charter is part of COSL’s effort to develop new Bohai Bay prospects such as the Bozhong 19-6 gas play, which was discovered in 2017.
