Brazilian businessman Raul Schmidt has avoided extradition from Portugal where he faces charges of corruption.
Schmidt is accused of acting as an intermediary for bribes collected by former Petrobras executives and Brazilian politicians as part of the corruption scheme unearthed by Brazil’s Car Wash probe.
Schmidt was originally an executive of Petrobras but left the company and temporarily headed the Brazilian subsidiary of Norway’s Sevan Marine, before becoming an independent agent and moving to London and then to Lisbon, taking advantage of his dual nationality.
