Sources said CPLEC sold the rig along with its design to TH Tianjin Binhai Heavy Industry Machinery, which is being developed as the offshore unit of Taiyuan Heavy Industry (TYHI) located in the Binhai area of Tianjin in northern China.
The sales could provide a short-cut to Chinese fabricators ready to embark on building offshore units, but sources said these companies will still have to build their talent pools to carry out the project fabrication work.
