Oil prices have shown sizeable gains over the past week, without having overcome the general tone of market weakness.
The weekly gain was about 20% and, at least temporarily, put prices on both sides of the Atlantic well above the perceived danger level of $30 per barrel.
The price gains might be cyclical, said analysts, and received a possibly temporary helping hand from the sudden cold weather in the US.
