US actress Kaley Cuoco, best known for her role in the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has teamed up with none other than oil giant Shell for a new innovative travel show project.

As the host of The Great Travel Hack, a digital video series available on YouTube, Cuoco will be working with the Anglo-Dutch supermajor in an effort to raise awareness of clean energy usage.

Cuoco, who on The Big Bang Theory played a waitress-cum-actress-cum-pharmaceutical sales representative, will once again be talking about chemicals, but this time she will be hoping to inspire consumers to protect the environment by choosing low-carbon transportation options.

Over five episodes, The Great Travel Hack will follow two teams as they battle it out to travel from Los Angeles to New York using the lowest amount of carbon dioxide emissions possible.

The programme is the first leg of a Shell-led global initiative that will see the journey replicated across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

In the first 12-minute episode, the teams raced to Las Vegas, one in a Honda Clarity hydrogen car and the other in an electric Hyundai Ioniq.

After stopping at Shell hydrogen refuelling stations and EV charging points along the way, the teams mixed it up off-road, finishing the race with electric boats and E-Thing electric dune buggies for the California deserts.

Electric bikes with unlimited pedal power also feature in the competition.

“It’s really well done and definitely eye-opening. Everyone loves to travel and it’s important we’re open to a cleaner way to get there,” Cuoco said.
