Iraq’s Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has issued a decree aimed at curbing the powers of mostly Iranian-backed Shia militias and forcing them to integrate into Iraq’s formal military, writes Nassir Shirkhani.

The move seems designed to placate the US as it came two weeks after mortar shells landed on a site used by international oil companies, including US supermajor ExxonMobil and military bases hosting US forces in Iraq.
