The semisub is drilling a test of Mariner Energy's Devil's Tower prospect. Delmar used the rig's eight high-holding power drag embedment anchors and two Seacor anchor-handling vessels to complete the mooring job in 35 hours. The new record comes on the heels of another record-setting effort by Delmar and Shell Offshore. The duo used a pre-set suction-anchor taut-leg system to moor the semisub Transocean Marianas in about 2082 metres of water.
Delmar sets a mooring mark
A NEW conventional-mooring world record was set in the Gulf of Mexico when Louisiana-based Delmar Systems set the semi-submersible Glomar Celtic Sea in 1683 metres of water in Mississippi Canyon block 773. The mooring surpasses the previous record by about 43 metres.
