Desire said it was abandoning the 25/5-1 well in the North Falklands basin, which was targeting the overlaying Jacinta and Dawn prospects, after it reached a total depth of 1697 metres.
Gas shows, but no significant hydrocarbons, were found in the Dawn prospect around 1434 metres.
Last week the company said it had failed to find hydrocarbons in the shallower Jacinta prospect.
