Devon Energy of the US has applied to Canadian authorities for regulatory approval to pursue a C$1.3 billion ($1.03 billion) expansion at its existing Jackfish oil sands complex in Alberta, writes Caroline Evans.

The project would increase the area of Devon's 100%-owned Jackfish steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project by 25 sections, according to the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).

Devon also proposes developing the roads, pipelines, well pads and utility facilities required to support the proposed operation, according to the application filed with the AER.
