Diamond Offshore and GE have struck a deal covering the operation of blowout preventers on offshore rigs under a fee-for-service system that analysts believe could change the dynamic between drillers and manufacturers.

Houston-based Diamond announced that it is selling eight GE-built BOPs, fitted on four drillships in the Gulf of Mexico, to GE Oil & Gas for $210 million and signing a 10-year contract to lease them back at a dayrate.
