The Houston-based contractor agreed to exercise an existing option to build a fourth ultra-deepwater drillship at Hyundai Heavy Industries. Delivery of this is scheduled for late 2014.
The new rig, to be named Ocean BlackLion, will feature two seven-ram blowout preventer (BOP) stacks, with the second available for use as a spare. The Ocean BlackLion carries an estimated price tag of around $655 million.
