The success of the Dorado oil discovery off Western Australia has piqued the interest of the industry, but there is relatively little acreage available in that specific area, writes Russell Searancke.

The find's co-owners Quadrant Energy and Carnarvon Petroleum have sewn up most of the Bedout sub-basin with their four permits covering 20,000 square kilometres.

The Bedout is a smallish subdivision of the surrounding Roebuck basin, which itself is part of the Northern Carnarvon basin.
