France’s Total could begin wildcatting as early as next year on frontier acreage in the Democratic Republic of Congo, close to its Lake Albert oilfields in Uganda and the starting point of a planned 200,000 barrel per day export pipeline.

Total and its partner, Johannesburg-listed junior SacOil, have just completed acquiring 244 kilometres of 2D seismic data in the northern part of Block III in DR Congo, away from the environmentally sensitive Virunga National Park.
