The gains brought the total onshore rig count to 563, its highest total since January this year, but still 145 rigs below this time last year, according to the latest figures from US services giant Baker Hughes.
The offshore rig count was flat for the week, bringing the total US rig count to 588 — down 151 units year-on-year.
Baker Hughes issued the report two days early due to the US Thanksgiving day holiday.
