The company contacted police after the discovery of the substance on the Piper Bravo facility on Saturday 17 May.
Offshore workers claimed on social media that cocaine was found in a stairwell on the platform.
However, police and the company said it was too early to confirm what the substance was. Tests were due to be carried out on land to establish what it was as Upstream went to press.
