Spain’s Repsol is putting two major contractors through their paces during talks to provide a tension-leg wellhead platform for the Ca Rong Do (Red Emperor) oil and gas development off Vietnam.

The two-horse race for the 18-slot platform is between Modec of Japan and US-based Floatec, and is a close-run affair, said sources.

The victor will partner with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) in building the TLP, which will be the first of its kind in Vietnam, and will be built at PTSC’s mechanical and construction division in Vung Tau.
