US supermajor ExxonMobil and its junior partner Impact Oil & Gas have identified what they believe could be a potentially huge new gas play off South Africa’s east coast.
Impact’s exploration director Phil Birch said the 500-kilometre long, 90-kilometre wide Transkei licence on South Africa’s transform margin hosts large deep-water fans not far from shore which could hold 188 trillion cubic feet of gas in place.
