Five companies have so far registered their interest in the recently-launched auction for new contracts for the producing Bongkot and Erawan gas fields off Thailand.

Those that have formally signalled their intent to bid are national upstream company PTTEP, US supermajor Chevron, Total of France, UAE-headquartered Mubadala Petroleum and Japan’s Mitsui Oil Exploration Company (Moeco).

Thailand’s industry regulator, the Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF), last week finally opened the tender for new contracts for the mature producing Bongkot and Erawan gas fields in the Gulf of Thailand – the existing concessions for which respectively expire in 2023 and 2022.
