Ecopetrol and Lukoil line up second go at Llanos potential

Colombia's Ecopetrol and Russia's Lukoil are preparing to take a second stab at the Llanos foothills prospect to follow up earlier drilling operations that may not have realised their full potential, writes Gareth Chetwynd.

Lukoil is currently preparing the drilling location on the Lengupa prospect, which follows up an early find called Medina.

The discovery on Colombia's Condor block was hailed one year ago as a 100-million-barrel field and said to be the first Russian discovery in the Western hemisphere.

Sources close to the operation said that the Medina well fell short of its objective, so the new well is intended to prove up those earlier estimates.
