Colombia's Ecopetrol plans to ramp up activity in the Permian basin next year as the state player makes its debut in the US shale play.
Chief executive Felipe Bayon said this week that two wells in the Midland sub-basin have reached total depth and Ecopetrol will begin fracking them in November.
The company teamed up with US independent Occidental Petroleum in July, taking a 49% interest in a joint venture to develop 97,000 net acres in the Midland.
