Ecuador is set to quit the Opec oil producers group in January, its Energy Ministry has confirmed, as the country moves to curb public spending and generate new revenues.
“The decision is based on the issues and internal challenges that the country must take related to fiscal sustainability,” the ministry said.
The move marks the second time the Andean nation has left Opec.
