The date 26 February 2018 — the day of the massive Highlands earthquake — will long be remembered by Papua New Guinea’s upstream petroleum sector, writes Russell Searancke.

The 7.5 magnitude quake struck at 03:44 in Hela Province, which hosts a number of major producing fields including Hides, Angore, Kutubu and Moran.

ExxonMobil's PNG managing director Andrew Barry says the devastation from the quake “was on an unimaginable scale and will be an event that is etched in the minds of many for the rest of our lives.
