Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek al-Molla hosted the first gas forum in the region in Cairo on Monday as the country looks to become an East Mediterranean gas hub.
The initiative included a visit by Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, in the first such visit by an Israeli Cabinet member since Egypt’s 2011 revolution.
Steinitz praised the Egyptian initiative, saying the discovery of gas in the East Mediterranean and establishment of an organisation to co-ordinate its management will help strengthen regional ties.
