Operator Elf holds a 37.5% stake in the field with Canadian Fletcher Challenge 35%, Jasra Petroleum 22.5% and other Bruneian interests 5%. Drilling of the Maharaja Lela 3 appraisal well earlier this year had encountered hydrocarbons in a number of reservoir sequences and produced 29 million standard cubic feet of gas and 444 barrels of condensate per day on test.
Elf goes ahead on Brunei field
ELF Petroleum and its partners are to start the development of the Maharaja Lela/Jamalul Alam gas and condensate field offshore Brunei. An official of the French company told Upstream the total development cost through to first production in January 1999 is estimated at US$230 million.
