Petronas has identified EOR as one of the three keys to arrest declining output and boost domestic production at the country’s mature oilfields, especially with the average recovery factor in the country only matching up to half of the 46% average in the North Sea.
As far back as 2006, the state-owned player kicked off pilot studies and identified 37 reservoirs with a total potential of 955 million barrels of oil reserves as technically feasible for EOR enhanced oil recovery processes.
