The Maraca-1 well is being drilled in about 650 metres of water by the Saipem semi-submersible Scarabeo 7.
It is targeting Middle Miocene sands in the hope of proving up another discovery in this prolific block, where Eni has so far had 10 finds, including nine oil and one gas.
The exact location of the Maraca prospect is unclear, but Eni is known to be looking for more reserves to tie back to its proposed West Hub and East Hub projects, both to be developed with floating production, storage and offloading vessels.
