Italy’s Eni has made what is being touted as the largest natural gas discovery ever in the Mediterranean Sea, finding what it claims is a supergiant field with estimated reserves of 30 trillion cubic feet on its deep-water Shorouk block.
The find has the potential to transform Egypt’s gas industry and raises hope for gas exports, although the Italian operator still has to appraise the field to accurately gauge its size.
