Italian major Eni plans to fast-track its latest oil discovery in the Gulf of Suez off Egypt, where an early estimate of in-place resources is about 200 million barrels, writes Nassir Shirkhani.
The Sidri South discovery on the Abu Rudeis Sidri development lease was made by Petrobel, which is Eni's joint venture with Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
"The Sidri-36 appraisal well, drilled to assess the field continuity westward in a downdip position with respect to the Sidri-23 discovery well, encountered an important hydrocarbon column in the clastic sequences of the Nubia formation (200 meters of hydrocarbon column)," Eni said.
