ITALY'S Eni has made its debut on Oman's upstream scene, picking up an offshore block in a country that is seen as a poor exploration destination, writes Nassir Shirkhani.

Eni and state-owned Oman Oil Company were awarded Block 52 in the south of the country following an international bid round launched last year.

Eni, whose only presence in Oman is through an indirect minority stake in the country’s Qalhat liquefied natural gas plant, did not reveal the size of the new partner's stake in Block 52.
