EOG Resources has developed the first successful enhanced oil recovery programme in the US shale plays with a proprietary natural gas injection system in the Eagle Ford shale, although the technique may not work in other plays.
The US tight oil specialist believes it can increase recoveries in the Eagle Ford, where it already drills some of the most productive wells, by anywhere from 30% to 70% using the new secondary recovery technique.
