Western Australia’s Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has withdrawn a guideline that would have required new oil and gas projects to have zero net carbon emissions, writes Josh Lewis.
Following criticism from both government and industry, the EPA last week withdrew the guideline which recommended new projects, including expansion proposals, with direct emissions above 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum fully offset their emissions via environmental projects or buying carbon credits.
