Norway’s Equinor has initiated informal talks with potential bidders for engineering and construction of a floating production, offloading and storage unit for its Rosebank project in the UK’s West of Shetland area.

Equinor is said to be keen on getting the ball rolling at Rosebank after agreeing to acquire former operator Chevron’s stake in the project last year.

Industry sources told Upstream that Equinor cannot formally approach the market until UK authorities approve an application for a licence extension, but said there have been unofficial discussions.
