Norway’s Equinor is proposing a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model for the contracting of a large floating production, storage and offloading vessel to develop the Carcara pre-salt field in Brazil.

The idea is to have an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract rather than make use of the lease and operate model that has dominated recent projects in Brazil under Petrobras.

“The Carcara FPSO will be delivered as an EPCI contract, owned and operated by Equinor, maybe following a short transition period after first oil in order to get stable production before we take over operatorship from the contractor,” said Harald Eliassen, Equinor head of international projects.
