Equinor executives have completed visits to multiple shipyards in Asia keen to build a new floating production, storage and offloading vessel for its challenging Bay du Nord development off eastern Canada as the Norwegian operator looks to build a project than can meet its economic thresholds.
Industry sources said Equinor ran fact-finding missions last month to South Korea’s three major yards — Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries.
Upstream was told that company officials also visited facilities in Singapore, including Sembcorp Marine, and possibly also facilities in China.
