Equinor is looking at a likely subsea tie-back of the Echino South discovery to existing infrastructure at the nearby Troll field after making the find in the mature North Sea off Norway.
A wildcat drilled at the prospect by semi-submersible Deepsea Atlantic unearthed between 38 million and 100 million barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources, making it one of the largest finds off Norway this year, according to the state-controlled operator.
The 35/11-23 probe, drilled about three kilometres south-west of the Fram field that is itself tied back to the Troll C platform, struck a combined 75 metres of oil and gas pay.
