Norway's Equinor is understood to be showing early interest in taking on operatorship of Austrian oil company OMV’s Wisting discovery in the country's Barents Sea waters.
Industry sources suggested Equinor would be keen to take the helm at the 440 million-barrel Wisting discovery as it looks to address the lack of large projects on its domestic agenda after 2022.
Wisting is Norway's northernmost oil discovery and could be sanctioned in 2021, with production start-up in 2026.
