EUROPEAN oil chiefs united this week to call for a global carbon pricing system and said increased use of natural gas rather than coal for power generation and transportation was needed to address the threat of climate change.
The heads of six major European operators — BP, BG Group, Shell, Statoil, Eni and Total — issued a pair of letters addressed to Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) and Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, president of the upcoming COP21 climate summit, at the opening of the World Gas Conference in Paris.
